Updated: Sep 26, 2022

Get to know your candidate

September 9 marked 60 days until the midterm elections - so now is the time to get to know your candidates and make a plan for your vote. In case you haven’t yet met our area’s Democratic candidate for State Representative Kim Becker, please read on for a general summary of her background and some key highlights. If you’d like to meet Kim in person, keep an eye out for her busy events schedule - and listen for a knock on your door! Kim has been out and about nearly daily, actively listening to her future constituents to make sure she is representing the issues that matter most to Connecticut’s 62nd District (Barkhamsted, Granby, Hartland & New Hartford).

Community Activist and Advocate

Kim has been a Granby resident for more than 14 years. She and her husband of 24 years, Chris, moved to the area to be near her parents and so that her 2 children could become a part of Granby’s excellent school system. With a Masters of Social Work and organizing skills, Kim has been an active community member and advocate since her arrival.

Some of her past roles include: Member of the Celebrate Granby 225 steering committee, Chair of Valley Pre-School, Assistant Troop Leader for Girl Scout Troop 66174, writer for the marketing committee of the Granby Education Fund (GEF), before taking her the Vice Chair and now Chair of the GEF - all while volunteering as a school room parent, advocating for our schools and raising her family.

She remains deeply committed to active service, as is evidenced by her continued work for the Granby Education Foundation, the Commission on Aging, the Granby Ambulance Association, the Lions Club and Barkhamsted Senior Center. Kim now intends to broaden her service by supporting the 62nd not only locally, but also in Hartford - as a strong voice for small towns alongside our state’s leadership and lawmakers.
